We can all Grow Great in God's Love

Elm C of E Christian Values

The rich agricultural heritage in Fenland coupled with the historic growing and trade of mustard seed made The Parable of the Mustard Seed the perfect foundation to our Christian Values.

The mustard seed, though tiny, holds enormous potential. Likewise our faith may start small but it has the capacity to grow into something magnificent. Elm C of E Primary School’s vision is rooted in the believe that children blossom during their time here. Our children are enabled to grow and flourish through our teaching, care and support.

Our vision enables our children to be the person God created them to be, the best that they can be and to inspire love for others in the local community and beyond.

Our school vision encompasses a vision of the Kingdom of God, where God’s love rules, where everyone is welcome, where everyone is valued and where everyone can flourish. Jesus said that faith as small as a mustard seed could achieve great things, even move a mountain.

The whole school community is represented by the Tree – a place for all to belong, which is supported by the ‘branches’ of our school values. Through the guiding principles of these values children are supported to achieve their full potential.

Every child has created their own bird in the tree to represent themselves as an important part of the school community.

As a school we serve them, their families and our community.

These values support us in achieving our vision. Our values were chosen by our school, and highlight what is important to us: love, respect, trust, community and courage.

They are important values that enable us to live well together. They are values that are both naturally present in us, like little seeds, but also values that we endeavour to nurture, so that we can have ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). They enable us to realise that together as a community, we love, grow and learn.

The condition of our hearts and minds and the way we choose to be, determines how we can grow fully and create the best versions of ourselves. Each of our values is underpinned by a passage from the bible. The values remind us to live life according to God’s word and branch out from the wisdom of the Parable of the Mustard Seed.

‘What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it?

It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth.

Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.’

-Mark 4:30-32
