Physical Education

"Exercise is the key, not only to physical health but to peace of mind" Nelson Mandela

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that: ‘all pupils develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities; are physically active for sustained periods of time; engage in competitive sports and activities; lead healthy, active lives’.

Elm C of E School believes that Physical Education (P.E.), when experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical, social and intellectual development and well being. The physical education curriculum also aims to provide for increasing pupils’ self- confidence through an ability to manage themselves successfully in a variety of life situations. A balance of individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities aims to cater for individual pupil’s needs and abilities. Taught schemes of work are based on progressive learning objectives which, combined with varied and flexible teaching styles, endeavour to provide appropriate, stimulating, challenging and enjoyable learning situations for all pupils.

We use the Get Set 4 PE scheme which has been created by a range of local experts.
