Week Commencing 11th November 2024

Together as a preschool, we have been remembering the Soldiers past and present, with Remembrance day. We've made poppies using playdough, as well as other various materials. Building on our fine motor skills, the children have used hammers to hammer red shapes and pins into cork boards to create a poppy picture. On Remembrance we also showed respect to all Soldiers by taking part in the 2 minute silence, after that we talked about times when the children were brave. One child had said they were brave when they fell over, but they didn't cry.

We also explored the different leaves we could find in the garden, they're colour, size, how they felt, we definitely had lots of fun throwing them in the air.

As well as this, some children have been using the blocks to create their own vehicles. One child used the lego to make a boat.

Week Commencing 4th November 2024

Just like the fireworks you may have seen in the sky this week, our week has been full of colour, sparkles and excitement. We started of by using pipettes in the paint to create a firework effect picture, later adding lots of glitter to make them sparkle bright. From firework displays to seeing them out of the window the children have been sharing their own experiences of fireworks. Together we talked about the importance of keeping ourselves safe, the colours of fireworks and the loud sounds they make. As a group we moved in different ways pretending to be fireworks, using our motor skills to jump really high and then using clapping our hands to create the 'bang' sound, as well as spinning around in a circle.

With our current topic of 'Journeys' we have introduced a travel agents role play area. The children have loved looking through the holiday brochures, discussing where they want to go, with many of them wanting a beach holiday! They've also had the opportunity to pack their suitcase, deciding on what clothes they should take.

Our very own cucumber that has been growing in our garden was finally ready to be picked this week! Talking about the safety of using knives to chop foods, under adult supervision the children all had a go at chopping the cucumber, which they then went on to eat.

Week Commencing 21st October 2024

Another busy, creative week here at Preschool. We've used different materials to decorate the outside of the pumpkins, from paint to glitter we've had lots of fun getting creative. We've continued working on our motor skills as well as our hand and eye coordination, hammering golf tees into pumpkins, also understanding the importance of keeping safe. We had the pleasure of holding our Harvest Stay & Play session on Thursday, we love being able to share with you your child's progress and what we get up to here in Preschool... this is something we will definitely continue to hold.

We hope you all have a lovely half term!

Week Commencing 14th October 2024

WOW! What an exciting week we've had this week! We were lucky enough to have a visit from Firefighters from Wisbech Fire Station, which the children absolutely loved. When seeing the Fire Engine drive towards preschool, the children couldn't hold their excitement and the sound of screaming filled the room. The interaction between the children and the Fire Fighters was lovely to watch. The children listened well to the Fire Fighters explaining the different areas of the Fire Engine as well as the uniform they wear. Questions were being asked confidently by the children "How tall is the ladder?" We were really proud of all the children that took part in the Fire Station visit.

We've also allowed the children this week to explore with hammers, hammering golf tees into pumpkins. With a little modelling, the children showed good coordination - with some being experts from the beginning.

We can't wait for you to join us for our Harvest Stay and Play!

Week Commencing 7th October 2024

This week we introduced our 'Fire Station' role play area, to tie in with our current theme of people who help us in the Community. The children have explored, created their own scenarios and acted out the scenarios in the Fire Station - which has had a positive impact on their communication & language skills as well as building on their imagination. The children have also been getting creative in the mark making area, using junk modelling materials to design their own emergency service vehicle.

Out in the garden this week, several children had found a newt in the grass, Mrs Smith placed the Newt in a bowl of water. Together we took a walk to the pond over at the school, where the children were able to watch the Newt return to its natural habitat.

Now time for a restful weekend, ready for another busy week next week!

Week commencing 30th September 2024

Although the weather hasn't been great this week, it most definitely hasn't stopped us from having lots of fun here at Preschool. We stood under the canopy in our garden and watched the pouring rain, this is where we talked about the changes in weather now that we're in Autumn. The children gave their own ideas of what clothes we should wear now that the weather is getting slightly colder and wet. "I think we should wear wetsuits and wellie boots" was just one of the great ideas from the children, with some also suggesting it's time for hats, scarfs and gloves.

Carrying on with the Autumn theme, we've been making 'Autumn leaf catchers' which you will see they have been added to a window. We're also getting ready for the Harvest Festival here at preschool, with this we've got our own pumpkin patch play area set up, with various sized pumpkins, squashes, marrows and conkers - the children have loved exploring this!

There's definitely more to explore for next week and we can't wait!

Week Commencing 23rd September 2024

As promised, we've began to explore Autumn this week. Firstly going on an Autumn Walk around the school field, collecting all things Autumnal. The children loved collecting leaves, sticks, conkers and a few pines conkers later using these to make Autumn Wreaths. There has been a sudden increase in the number of conkers falling from the Conker tree, throughout the week we've estimated the number of conkers collected, some estimations from children were '1, 7, 10, lots' when in fact we have collected over 186 conkers! WOW!! Using magnifying glasses we've been exploring our Autumn tray - 'what can you see?' 'what does it feel like?' "It's crunchy" "I've found more conkers!" "I've found a brown leaf" are just a few statements from the children.

Week Commencing 16th September 2024

This week we continued to talk about ourselves, the similarities and differences we share with our friends; looking at eye colour, hair colour, etc. We used a black & white photo of ourselves as a guide to draw our own self - portraits, which are placed up on our display board. Out in the garden, we've been collecting fallen Conkers from the tree - exploring the paint through conker rolling, the children most definitely enjoyed getting messy. We also took a look at our vegetables growing in the garden, the children have helped pick both the tomatoes and carrots - both eating them and drawing them.

We're now ready to explore Autumn next week!

Week Commencing 9th September 2024

Our first full back of the academic year and what a busy week it's been, getting to know all of our new friends. As our topic for this term is 'All About Me', we've used different materials to make our faces, from paper plates to playdough, using mirrors to add our unique features. Together we talked about our body parts and how we use them, to help us understand more - we drew around a child and together we labelled each body part. To take this learning further we've been singing 'head, shoulders, knees and toes'.

Like I said this has most definitely been a busy week, we can't wait to share with you what we do next week! :)
