Week beginning 27th April

This week as part of our topic work, we learned about woodland areas. We discovered what animals live in the woodland and explored the effects that humans can have on woodland spaces and what we can do to save our wood.

In our creative area we have been exploring the texture of clay and manipulating it to create a hedgehog using beads and match sticks, we are very proud of how our hedgehogs look. We have also been using paint and thin paintbrushes to create woodland pictures.

In the garden we have been exploring a woodland tuff tray with woodland animals. We added rubbish to the tray and used litter pickers to clean up the woodland. We spoke about the effects the rubbish will have on the animals and the woods and what we can do to keep our woodlands tidy. The children decided that we all need to take our rubbish home after we have had a picnic in the woods.

After thinking about the effects that humans can have on the woods, we had to rescue the animals from the diggers as they were coming to destroy the woodland and we made bridges using toilet rolls and lolli-sticks for the animals to walk along to get to safety.

As part of our school readiness, we have started to provide milk and water in open cups during snack time. The children have enjoyed pouring their own drinks and having the choice between either milk or water. They have also been very helpful and washed up their cups and jugs.

We hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Week Commencing 20th April 2026

This week as part of our topic work, we learned about the farm. We discovered the names of baby animals on the farm and spoke about where our food comes from. We found out that farmers are very busy, with lots of jobs to do including looking after the animals, sowing seeds and collecting eggs from the chickens.

Our story of the week has been, ‘A squash and a squeeze, by Julia Donaldson ’. We have been squashing and squeezing playdough with our fingers to get our finger muscles working, and using tongs to squash and squeeze Pom poms into different containers.

In our creative area we have been painting pictures of the farm using hay.

The weather has been lovely this week so we enjoyed the outside by making marks in the shaving foam trays with farm animals in them and then cleaning the animals with small sponges and pippets. We also explored a small world farm tray, thinking about what the farmers jobs are, and where each of the animals live on a farm.

We were very excited to have a lesson on the life education bus; where we learnt about taking care of ourselves. We also got to meet Harold the Giraffe and helped him to look after himself.

What a busy week!!
