Week Beginning 11th March 2024

This week we have busy exploring the first signs of Spring. As a group together we explored the school field looking for resources we could use to make 'Nature pictures'. The children used magnifying glasses to examine the leaves and sticks they found "Look, this one's bigger". After that we used the resources to create our own creations, adding leaves, sticks, sand and mud. As Spring is slowly approaching, we have also been learning about the life cycle of a Butterfly and Frogs. The children used their motor skills, to cut out each step of the life cycle, which they then had to put into the correct sequence. Going with the Spring theme, we've also been creating Spring pictures, from daffodils to tulips - all children thoroughly enjoyed this activity, showing each other their drawings, extremely proud of their artwork. We then looked at measuring different lengths of beanstalks using tape measures, "lets measure the beanstalk, mine is longer than yours".  A busy but exciting week for us all, we can't wait to show you what we're up to next week!

Week Beginning 18th March 2024

Thank you to all that have provided a baby photo of your child, we have had lots of fun trying to guess who the baby is; looking at similarities and differences from then to now.  We've also been busy getting messy, rescuing ladybirds out of the slime, supporting their fine motor skills the children were using tweezers to rescue the ladybirds. To supports this learning even further, the children were to count the spots on the ladybird. Not only have we been working on fine motor skills but we have been developing motor skills out in the garden, using coordination to control the scooters around the track. Talking about getting messy we've been exploring the texture of custard. Again another busy week... next week will be full of Easter crafts, we can't wait to show you photos.

Week Commencing 15/04/24

Welcome back everyone, we all hope you had a lovely Easter. This week we have been extra busy welcoming new children into our Preschool. Our new starters have been busy exploring their new indoor and outdoor environments and getting to know our routines here at preschool. We were also lucky to experience the Life Bus twice this week, the children learnt all about their bodies and the importance of keeping their bodies healthy, which then brings us onto teeth cleaning. Some children have been practising their teeth cleaning skills here at Preschool, washing hands before, placing only a small amount of tooth paste on their toothbrush and then using the correct techniques when tooth brushing.

We've had an exhausting week here at Preschool and can't wait for another busy week next week.

Week commencing 22nd April 2024

This week has been a very musical week, the children have loved using the microphone to sing their favourite nursery rhymes - it's amazing watching their confidence flourish. As well as lots of singing and dancing, we've been getting creative. As we are currently learning all about animals and their babies, with our story of the week being 'the Very hungry Caterpillar' we've been creating our own caterpillars and butterflies. Each and everyone creation is as unique as the child. Earlier in the week, we went on a colour walk around the school looking for the colours blue, red, green and yellow. The children used the technique of tallying when identifying the colours.

This week has been another busy week settling in our new starters!

Week commencing 29th April 2024

Throughout the week we have been developing our perseverance and working as a team. From building their own zoo to getting creative together, the children have been sharing their own ideas and using these to work together. The weather this week has been amazing, we've been spending most of our days outdoors - without having to put on a pair of wellie boots! Counting with the working together goal outdoors the children have been exploring the parachute, including maths games whilst we work on team building. The children also had the opportunity to try new foods, this week we tried Cucumber - most of the children really enjoyed the cucumber and even had seconds.

We hope the sunny weather continues for next week! Fingers crossed!

Week Commencing 6th May 2024

WOW, the sunshine this week has been amazing and sunshine only means one thing in preschool - lots more time spent outdoors! We also spent a day in Reception Class which the children really enjoyed, both indoors and outdoors. This week we have been learning all about different farm animals, from what they look like to what they eat. We also looked at animals and their babies, with similarities and differences - the children were able to match the babies to their adults independently. We've been exploring our creative side, using various different materials, these were paints, glitter, pipe cleaners and lollipop sticks. As our current book is 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' we have been learning a song based on the story, which we will then sing to you on our next Stay & Play session, so keep your eyes peeled for more details!
